Tracking
Tracking is a bonding,
non-competitive, and stress-free activity that is suitable for ALL dogs
and most of all...it's fun!!!
If you love spending time outside with your dog, and would
like to learn a sport that develops your dogís natural scenting
abilities, tracking may be of interest for you. Tracking is a partnership
in which you ask your dog to use his nose and relay this information to
you. It is a humbling and enlightening experience to work with your dog.
WDOC offers tracking classes in the spring of each year. You
are taught how to develop your dog's nose as well as recognize and interpret
what your dog is telling you. Tracking classes are open to dogs of all
ages as well as breed. CKC tracking test are designed to judge you and
your dog as a team and test your dogís ability to recognize and
follow a humanís scent and indicate to you when they locate an
object. The challenge lies in getting the dog to follow one specific scent
when told to do so and to exclude all others. Communications between the
dog and yourself is very important and teamwork is absolutely essential.
CKC Tracking Test Requirements are that every dog entered in a test must
be one of the following:
-Registered with the CKC
-Have an Event Registration Number
-Have a Performance Event Number
-Eligible for registration with the CKC
-Have a CKC miscellaneous class certification number if designated as
a miscellaneous class breed.
